Whilst MCS Pipeline Services have undertaken and completed a great many projects over the years , some of the more significant (and recent) include:

The Olifantsfontein Pipeline Project

  • Re-routing of a 3 500m x 6” HP gas pipeline
  • Required due to major sinkhole activity in a dolomitic area of Olifantsfontein
  • Activities during this project included:
    • Pipeline welding and wrapping
    • R-O-W preparation
    • Trenching
    • Drilling and blasting
    • Bed, lay, pad and backfill pipeline
    • Construction of reinforced beam sections across identified sinkhole areas to protect the pipeline
    • HDD
    • Hydro testing
    • In service welding
    • Site remediation
  • Had to be completed in 12 weeks  

The Network Segmentation Project
  • Sectionalising the existing Sasol Gas pipeline network prior to the introduction of Natural Gas from Mocambique
  • The first time a project of this nature and magnitude had been undertaken by one company in Southern Africa
  • Activities included:
    • Location and excavation of pipeline
    • Welding of Stopple fittings to pipeline
    • NDT and pressure testing welded fittings
    • Manufacturing bypass pipelines
    • Hot Tapping and Stoppling (line plugging) activities
    • Cold Cutting
    • Installation of welded ball valves
    • NDT of all welds
    • Coating of completed sections
    • Backfilling
    • Site rehabilitation
  • 100 000 manhours without any lost time injuries
  • Completed 10 weeks ahead of schedule
  • Significant cost-savings to client
  • No transgressions shown in Environmental Audit

The Gautrain Project
  • Entailed the deviation of  HP gas pipeline sections on three areas along the Gautrain train route
  • Crossed the busiest motorway in Africa using HDD equipment
  • Installed a 12” HP gas pipeline section of 140m under the Ben Schoeman Highway

The Meydustria Gas Network

  • Fabrication and installation of a HP Meter Station
  • Fabrication and installation of customer meter stations
  • Construction of a HDPE gas pipeline network
  • Construction of a 12” steel LP gas pipeline
  • Tie in and commissioning

Hot tapping & Plugging Highlights
  • 42” hot tap on a 4m water header – Sasol Secunda 14th Oxygen Train OBL
  • 42” and 36” hot tapping to install Taprogge filter system
  • 12” hot tap on super heated steam at 440 degrees celcius and 4 000 kPa

 

News Highlight
